cmi5 bridges the SCORM and xAPI gap by providing specific guidance for plug and play interoperability of eLearning content across LMSs. An xAPI Profile, cmi5 contains a vocabulary model and xAPI Statement patterns.
What is cmi5?
cmi5 is an xAPI Profile that provides rules for how online courses are imported, launched and tracked using a Learning Management System (LMS) and xAPI. It was designed with the intent to transition from SCORM-based content and systems to the more modern xAPI specification. The specification uses a simplified tracking model that only specifies the key elements for interoperability across most learning instances, including score, status and time, but it’s capable of recording and reporting on much more.
How does cmi5 compare to SCORM and xAPI?
It opens up the best of both worlds: the flexibility of xAPI for tracking virtually any type of learning activity and the structure of SCORM that learning technologies and systems have historically relied upon. Learn more about how cmi5 compares to SCORM and xAPI.

Why should I use the specification?
Traditional LMSs play a key role in many training programs, but neither SCORM nor xAPI (on its own) can adequately play and track content across disparate technologies and LMSs. See how cmi5 may be beneficial for your organization.
